Kremlin says Putin's late meeting with economy official 'absolutely routine'

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - The meeting that Russian President Vladimir Putin held with the country's top economic officials late on Thursday was totally routine in nature, Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters.

"Both current issues and issues related to economic development in the medium term were discussed, I can say no more," Peskov said.

Peskov said on Thursday that Putin was planning a midnight meeting with the government's top economic officials.

"It was an absolutely routine meeting, but in this case one without a public agenda," Peskov said on Friday.

The president often holds late meetings "because of his congested work schedule due to the tense international situation. Clearly, the international aspect demands a lot of time in the president's daily affairs," he said.

"On top of that there's our internal agenda, and public events, and meetings on specific issues related to the economy, and it is impossible to fit all this into daytime hours," he said.

This is a customary situation. "Yes, it's a frequent occurrence," Peskov said.
