Sochi to host Military World Games in February 2017 - Shoigu

MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax) - The third winter Military World Games will be held in Sochi in 2017, their opening will be timed to coincide with the Fatherland Defender's Day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has said.

"At the general assembly of the International Military Sports Council in Kuwait, in May 2015, our country won the title to host the third winter Military World Games in 2017. They will be held in Sochi, on February 22-28," he told the games' organizing committee on Monday.

The opening ceremony will be held on February 23, to coincide with the Fatherland Defender's Day, the minister said.

The program includes competitions in disciplines such as biathlon, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, rock climbing, ski mountaineering, ski-orienteering and short-track speed skating, the defense minister said.
