Kyrgyzstan plans to speak of Uzbekistan's failure to obey intl law at CSTO Permanent Council meeting
BISHKEK. March 22 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan will make a statement at a special session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Permanent Council on Tuesday that Uzbekistan is not abiding by the norms of international law in the situation surrounding the uncoordinated sector of the two countries' border, a diplomatic source in Bishkek told Interfax.
"The relevant statement will be made. Kyrgyzstan is certain about support from its partners in the CSTO," the source said.
The source also said what he means is that Uzbekistan is amassing Armed Forces personnel and hardware at the uncoordinated sector of the state border in the Chalasart area of the Aksy district in the Jalal-Abad region in southern Kyrgyzstan.
The Kyrgyz side believes that this could lead to an escalation of tensions in districts near the border and in the region, he said.
It was reported that Uzbek servicemen and military hardware arrived at the Chalasart sector of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border on March 18. In response to that, Kyrgyzstan also increased security at this border sector, placing its servicemen there. Kyrgyzstan insists that Uzbekistan should withdraw its servicemen and military hardware from the uncoordinated sector of the state border.
A special session of the CSTO Permanent Council will be held in Moscow on Tuesday at Kyrgyzstan's initiative.
