Savchenko verdict 'politically motivated' - Yavlinsky

MOSCOW. March 22 (Interfax) - The verdict against Nadiya Savchenko is politically motivated and does not deliver justice, says Grigory Yavlinsky, the founder of the Yabloko (Apple) party.

"The Savchenko 'verdict' happened, it is inseparable from the military, political and information campaign on the part of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which was launched in the winter of 2014. The Russian authorities' unlawful actions also include the trial against Savchenko. This verdict, like a gunshot, is part of the war," Yavlinsky told Interfax on Tuesday.

Russia is a party involved in the conflict in southeastern Ukraine, and therefore, "the prosecution and trying of the Ukrainian woman Savchenko was no doubt politically motivated," he said.

"The 'verdict' against Nadiya Savchenko is a reprisal, not the delivery of justice, and responsibility for the life of Nadiya Savchenko now lies with the Russian authorities," he said.
