Russian special operation forces in Syria direct warplanes to targets - group commander

MOSCOW. March 23 (Interfax) - Units of Russian special operation forces currently operate in Syrian territory, Col. Gen. Alexander Dvornikov, Commander of the Russian group in Syria, said.

"I won't conceal that our special operation forces operate in Syria as well. They do further reconnaissance of sites for the purposes of strikes to be carried out by the Russian aviation, direct planes to targets in remote areas, and accomplish other special tasks," Dvornikov said in the interview published by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper on Thursday.

"But one must beware that similar units of the U.S., other states of the coalition, accomplish various missions in Syria, too," Dvornikov added.

"Our military advisors worked, and are working now, at all levels, including the tactical one. These officers have been assisting Syrian colleagues in planning and conducting warfare against terrorists, as well as in practicing in operating Russian military equipment," he said.

The Russian center for reconciliation continues to operate in the territory of the Hmeimim Russian airbase. "More than 60 Russian officers work there, with the majority of them based on various provinces," Dvornikov said.
