Belarus, Russia yet to agree on lowering gas price

MINSK. March 25 (Interfax) - Belarus and Russia have not yet reached agreement to lower the price of gas supplied to Belarus, Andrei Kruglov, deputy CEO of Russia's Gazprom , told reporters in Minsk.

"As far as I know, no decisions have been reached on this issue so far," he said.

At present, the company works on the basis that Belarus and Russia have an inter-governmental agreement and a signed contract. "We for our part proceed from the fact that these agreements exist, and we expect them to be honored," Kruglov said.

The relevant consultations are being held, he said. "But a decision has not yet been reach, and we work on the basis of existing agreements," he said.

He said the gas price of $142 per thousand cubic meters set down in the inter-governmental agreement still applied now.

Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko has been quoted as saying that Minsk hoped to resolve the issue of lowering the price of Russian gas during March.
