Russian ambassador warns Belarus about difficulties related to WTO accession
MINSK. March 31 (Interfax) - Belarus will face certain risks to its economy in case it joins the World Trade Organization (WTO), Russian ambassador to Belarus, Alexander Surikov, said, at a Thursday press conference in Minsk.
"Not everything is indisputable. Something is dangerous, something is necessary. But as the decision on the accession has been made, it means it should be joined," the ambassador said, noting that the partners of Belarus in EurAsEC are WTO members already.
"There is one component - political - fairly strong. And another - the domestic interests of the state. It is a question of practice, of how they can be combined during the accession to WTO, and during the operation in the framework of the organization," Surikov said.
"It is probably necessary to join and later in the framework of these rules look for possibilities of supporting one's economy so that it would compete more successfully on international markets," the diplomat said.
