Baku must explain reasons for resumed fighting - Armenian president

YEREVAN. April 4 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan has attacked the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh Republic to avoid having to resolve the issue through negotiations, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has said.

"From the statements [made] by this country's President and foreign ministry, it is has become clear that Azerbaijan attacked Nagorno Karabakh. Their explanation is that Azerbaijan attacked in order to resolve issues that were to be resolved through peace talks in the framework of the OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] Minsk Group," Sargsyan was quoted by his press office as saying at a meeting with OSCE ambassadors.

"We are expecting all parties concerned with regional peace to demand of Baku clear explanations for the reasons for the resumption of hostilities," he said.

Calls by a number of countries and organizations to establish peace are "not efficient until directed specifically to the addressee" who started the fighting, and they also "envisage no consequences for the disregard of these calls," he said.
