Yerevan confirms large-scale DDoS attack on Armenian govt, news sites
YEREVAN. April 6 (Interfax) - Some Armenian government and news sites are experiencing DDoS attacks, Samvel Martirosyan, a specialist on information security, told Interfax on Wednesday.
"No Armenian websites have been hacked. But many sites are experiencing large-scale DDoS attacks, as a result of which some government sites are working with delays. Some news sites have the same problem," Martirosyan said.
He said the site protection mechanism is generally working effectively.
"There really were problems at the first moment of the attack, but now, sites are working virtually normally. Additionally, it has to be taken into account that the delays were not only due to the DDoS attacks, but also, unprecedented user activity [due to the information flow on the aggravated Karabakh conflict]," Martirosyan said.
He also said the Armenian hacker groups Armenian Cyber-Army and Monte Melkonyan's Cyber-Army have reported having carried out DDoS attacks on Azeri websites. "As a result of these attacks, the website of the Azeri government did not work for a long time," the expert sais.
The Turkish press reported earlier, on Wednesday, that local hackers had carried out a series of cyber-attacks on Armenian government sites following the exacerbation of the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone.
