Russia, France agree to join efforts for swift normalization in Karabakh - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. April 7 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke by telephone to French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault on April 7 at France's initiative, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
"The ministers discussed the latest developments in Nagorno-Karabakh and agreed to join the efforts of Russia and France as the co-chairs of the Minsk Group to swiftly normalize the situation in the conflict zone," the ministry said on its website.
The pair also discussed ways to step up cooperation in the "Normandy format," prospects for the political process in Syria and Lybia, and several current issues concerning the Russian-French bilateral relationship, the ministry said.
The situation in the Karabakh armed conflict zone was sharply aggravated in the early hours of April 2. On April 5, the parties agreed to return to the ceasefire, but keep accusing each other of violating the truce.
