Russian diplomat, LAS administration discuss crises in Syria, Yemen, Libya
MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has discussed the Syria situation with League of Arab States Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby and his successor, Ahmed Abul-Gheit, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The meetings focused on pressing items of the Middle East agenda, with an emphasis on the need for the soonest settlement of crises in Syria, Yemen and Libya, and the promotion of Arab-Israeli settlement," says the report published on the ministry website on Friday.
The sides accentuated the deepening of political dialogue between Russia and the League of Arab States, "including the efficient use of opportunities provided by the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum," the report said.
The LAS Council of Ministers approved the appointment of former Egyptian Foreign Minister Abul-Gheit as LAS Secretary-General on March 11. The tenure of incumbent LAS Secretary-General Elaraby expires on July 1, 2016.
