Syrian parliament speaker points to serious differences with "outside" opposition
DAMASCUS. April 10 (Interfax) - The Syrian government delegation to the Geneva talks has most serious differences with the outside opposition because of its representatives' reluctance to cut off terrorist supply routes, said Mohhamad Jihad al-Laham, Speaker of the People's Council of Syria.
"We will take part in the third round of Geneva talks. We have no problem, no differences or contradictions with the commonsense opposition, which is a peace-loving force. The biggest differences, key (differences) that we have is with the so-called outside opposition represented by Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other states, which has been trying to pursue the barbarian policy of these countries," al-Laham said at a meeting with Russian parliamentarians on Sunday.
"Contrary to all norms of international legitimacy and numerous UN Security Council resolutions, these countries don't want to do anything to shut down terrorist supply routes," he said.
In particular, terrorists are receiving weapons and other supplies through the Syrian-Turkish border, he said.
"Had these countries complied with the Security Council resolutions, we would have been able to complete the operation successfully and purge our country's territory," the speaker said.
The Russian parliamentary delegation arrived in Syria with a humanitarian mission on Saturday. It includes Senator Dmitry Sablin and Duma deputies Alexander Yushchenko and Sergei Gavrilov. A number of meetings with Syrian leadership representatives are expected during the visit.
