Azerbaijan's military fired mortars and grenade launchers at Karabakh positions overnight - Karabakh Defense Ministry

YEREVAN. April 12 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani Armed Forces used reconnaissance drones at different sectors of the contact line with forces of the Defense Army of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic overnight into Tuesday, Nagorno-Karabakh's Defense Ministry has reported.

"Azerbaijani forces fired 82mm and 60mm mortars and AGS-17 grenade launchers at Karabakh positions located at the northeastern Martakert and southeastern Hadrut sectors. These weapons were fired 24 times," the Defense Ministry said.

Azerbaijan's Armed Forces also used reconnaissance drones at the southern, eastern and northern sectors of the contact line, according to the report.

"The truce agreement between the sides was mostly observed on April 11 and overnight into April 12. Forward units of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army are monitoring the adversary's activities, and they took appropriate measures when necessary," the Defense Ministry said.

The situation in the region is currently quiet, the ministry noted.

Tensions in the Karabakh conflict zone abruptly escalated in the small hours of April 2. Hostilities engaging aircraft and artillery began. The sides traded accusations of the breach of ceasefire along the contact line, as well as claimed the adversary's substantial losses and limited losses of its own.

On April 5, Baku and Stepanakert, the capital of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, announced that an agreement had been reached to cease fire in the Karabakh conflict area from midday local time.
