Patrushev: Syria needs constitution acceptable for all citizens, early presidential elections

TASHKENT. April 14 (Interfax) - Early presidential elections in Syria should be held under international control, and the people of Syria should choose the head of state, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has said.

"It would be necessary to adopt a constitution acceptable for all Syrians and to work on the formation of a transitional government and early presidential elections under close international control," Patrushev said at a meeting of security council secretaries from the SCO member states in Tashkent on Thursday.

"Of course, only the people of Syria should decide who will be the next president of the country," Patrushev said.
