Following Armenia, Azerbaijan reports mockery of bodies of servicemen killed in Karabakh

BAKU. April 15 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has delivered a report about 'the mockery cases' surrounding the bodies of killed servicemen by the Armenian side at a meeting of the organization.

"Having been conducted by the Azeri military prosecutor's office and forensic experts, the examination of the bodies of killed servicemen, which were returned with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross, has uncovered numerous facts of inhumane treatment of them," the permanent mission said in a statement available to Interfax.

"On the basis of these facts and information about the committed crimes, an investigation has begun under the relevant articles of the Azeri Criminal Code," the statement said.

Stepanakert and Yerevan have previously accused the Azeri military of the same crimes.

Tensions in the Karabakh conflict zone abruptly escalated in the small hours of April 2. Hostilities engaging aircraft and artillery began. The sides traded accusations of the breach of ceasefire along the contact line, as well as claiming the adversary's substantial losses and limited losses of their own.

On April 5, Baku and Stepanakert, the capital of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, announced that an agreement had been reached to cease fire in the Karabakh conflict area from midday local time.

On April 14, a spokesperson for the Armenian Defense Ministry said that 92 people, including civilians, were killed in the escalation of the conflict with Azerbaijan on April 2- 5. Azerbaijan confirmed the deaths of 31 servicemen.
