Russia guarantees economic difficulties won't affect 2018 FIFA World Cup - Infantino
MOSCOW. April 19 (Interfax) - FIFA, the international football governing body, has received official guarantees from Russia that economic difficulties will not affect the preparations for, and the organization of, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said at a press conference in Moscow, on Tuesday.
Infantino said he was convinced that the 2018 World Cup would have a positive effect on the economic situation in Russia.
Public interest in the world championship is huge today, and the fact that Russia is preparing it will certainly have a positive effect on the Russian economy, and on the world economy as a whole, Infantino said.
