Barvikha elections cancelled

ODINTSOVO. April 20 (Interfax) - The Territorial Electoral Commission (TEC) of the Odintsovo District of the Moscow region on Wednesday decided to cancel elections initially scheduled for April 24 at the rural settlement of Barvikhinskoye, TEC Chairman Alexander Ignatov told his commission.

"The Commission has decided to cancel the elections unanimously, there were 14 votes," Moscow Regional Electoral Commission chairman Irek vildanov told Interfax on Wednesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Russian Central Electoral Commission (CEC) compelled the Odintsovo District TEC to cancel its decision to hold early council elections in Barvikha, because it was taken in breach of the procedural rules.

Earlier, Vildanov told Interfax that the Barvikha elections would be canceled at the CEC decision tonight and conducted once again over the next six months.

A day earlier, candidates from the non-registered Party of Progress announced their decision to withdraw their candidacies over the organized busing of voters, who were registered as Moscow region residents only a week ago.
