Uranium output to edge up to 25,500 tonnes a year in near future - Kazatomprom

ASTANA. April 21 (Interfax) - The output of uranium in Kazakhstan will increase only slightly in the next few years, said Yury Demekhov, a managing director for production at National Company Kazatomprom.

"We do not expect any significant growth in output in the near future. There will be a slight increase in production after the existing enterprises reach their design capacity. In the next few years output will reach about 25,000-25,550 tonnes of uranium a year," he said at the 7th Forum 'Minex Central Asia 2016' in Astana on Wednesday.

In 2015, Kazakhstan produced 23,800 tonnes of natural uranium.

Kazatomprom is the national operator of the Republic of Kazakhstan for export of uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants, special equipment, technologies and dual-use materials.
