Potent space base to bolster Russia's role in Far East - Zyuganov
MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - The first launch of the Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket from Vostochny Cosmodrome will enable Russia to reinforce its positions in the Asia-Pacific region, Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said.
"It is important to have a potent space base in the Far East, the main events of the 21st century will be taking place in the Asia Pacific region," he told reporters on Thursday.
It is those territories which today have "the most powerful financial flows, various fast-developing countries there," he said.
"We need to reinforce our positions there and the fact that we will have a potent space center there is a very important claim for Russia's major role in the region," the politician said.
