Povetkin has not taken Meldonium since last fall - promoter

MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - Andrei Ryabinsky, head of Mir Boxa (The world of boxing), a promoting company, said that the Russian super-heavyweight boxer Alexander Povetkin only took Meldonium when it was not banned.

"Alexander Povetkin was taking Meldonum in September of last year, when the substance was permitted. Povetkin has not taken the drug since January, but theoretically, Meldonium could have stayed in his blood," Ryabinsky was quoted by the company spokesperson as having said.

On Friday, the media reported that the athlete had tested positive for Meldonium.
