Russian, ASEAN leaders to discuss problem of terrorists returning from Mideast - diplomat

SOCHI. May 19 (Interfax) - The consolidation of efforts in fighting terrorism will be addressed during discussions between leaders during the ongoing Russia-ASEAN summit in Sochi, and will be mentioned in the summit's final declaration, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said.

"This subject will be touched upon in the declaration and in the comprehensive plan of action, and perhaps it will be discussed tomorrow at meetings [during the summit]," Morgulov said at a news briefing in Sochi, on Thursday.

"We are training specialists from ASEAN countries in this field," Morgulov said. "As well as we do, the ASEAN countries face the problem of returning terrorists, who are involved in the fighting in the Middle East. And the ASEAN countries feel the need to enhance coordination of action with Russia to successfully oppose the terrorist threats," he said.

"Such work is already being done, and interaction in this field will definitely be strengthened," he said.
