Tunisia hopes to get rifles, bulletproof vests from Russia soon - Tunisian ambassador
KAZAN. May 20 (Interfax) - Tunisia is hoping to receive soon from Russia light weapons, bulletproof vests and other equipment for fighting terrorism, this country's ambassador to Russia Ali Goutali said.
"What we need is light weapons, like automatic rifles, equipment like bullet proof jackets, like equipment for night vision and some other electronic devices. We hope that in the near future we will receive something from Russia," he told Interfax.
"Nothing was handed over to Tunisia so far, but we have got pledges from the Russian government to help us with some equipment so as to enable us to face terrorism," Goutali said.
In March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after talks with his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui that the two countries were discussing a possibility of fitting out Tunisian troops with Russian counter-terrorist equipment.
