Ukrainian military positions in Donbas shelled 12 times on Sunday, Kyiv says

KYIV. June 12 (Interfax) - The press center for the Donbas military operation headquarters said the number of enemy shell attacks decreased throughout the day on Sunday.

Militiamen opened fire 12 times against Ukrainian military positions on Sunday, "the degree of tension dropped slightly during the day, the number of shell attacks decreased during the day," the press center wrote on Facebook.

At midnight, militiamen in the Donetsk area fired grenades, infantry fighting vehicle-mounted guns and 122 millimeter self-propelled artillery weapons against Ukrainian military fortifications near Zaitseve and 82-millimeter mortars against positions near Nevelske and Maiorsk.

At 1 a.m. on Sunday, militiamen used heavy 120-millimeter mortars against the Maiorsk checkpoint, the report also said. The attack was launched from the part of the Izotov mine, the positions near Leninske were targeted with mortars of varying caliber.

Small arms, large-caliber machineguns and various grenade systems were used in attacks on the Ukrainian positions near the Putilovskaya (Butovka) mine this morning and the positions near Avdiivka in the afternoon.

In the Mariupol area, the enemy fired small arms against the Ukrainian positions near Hnutove and Hranitne, and 82-millimeter mortars near Maryinka.

In the Luhansk area, the situation has been relatively quiet, the press center said.

In some cases, the Ukrainian troops were forced to fire back, the statement said.
