Poroshenko and Merkel exchange opinions on Minsk process development by phone

KYIV. June 23 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the progress made in implementing the Minsk agreements during their recent phone call, the Ukrainian presidential press service said on Wednesday.

"The sides exchanged opinions concerning the development of the Minsk process following the Ukrainian president's visit to France, as well as the extension of sanctions against Russia," it said.

Poroshenko and Merkel also discussed preparations for the NATO summit, due to take place in Warsaw on July 8-9, the press service said.

Among other topics, the sides addressed the results of the June 15-16 meeting of the 'Normandy format' leaders' foreign policy advisors in Minsk.

Merkel also told Poroshenko about Germany's efforts to secure visa-free travel for the Ukrainians.
