Vice Adm. Nosatov becomes acting commander of Baltic fleet

MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - Vice Adm. Alexander Nosatov will become acting commander of the Baltic fleet, Vice Adm. Igor Mukhametshin will become acting chief of staff and first deputy commander, Maj. Gen. Ilgar Kakhramanov will be deputy commander for logistics, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said during an intercom meeting in the Russian National Defense Management center on Friday.

"As you know, a meeting of the Defense Ministry collegium, where the situation in the Baltic Fleet was discussed, was held on June 29. I approved the collegium's decision to suspend Vice Adm. Kravchuk and Vice Adm. Popov from the fleet administration for serious flaws," Shoigu said.

"Vice Adm. Alexander Mikailovich Nosatov has been appointed acting commander of the fleet, Vice Adm. Igor Timerbulatovich Mukhametshin has been appointed acting chief of staff and first deputy commander of the fleet, and Maj. Gen. Ilgar Marish-ogly Kakhramanov has been appointed deputy commander of the fleet for logistics," Shoigu said.

"I am asking the deputy defense ministers, the commander-in-chief of the Navy, the commander of troops of the Western Military District, the heads of the central military administration bodies, and the new administration of the Baltic Fleet to jointly take exhaustive measures to improve the situation and bring order to the Baltic Fleet," Shoigu said.

Alexander Nosatov was born in Sevastopol on March 27, 1963. In 1985, he graduated from the Nakhimov Black Sea Higher Naval School. He served in the Pacific Fleet as commander of the surface-to-air missile squadron of the fleet destroyer Stoikiy, commander of the missile-artillery combat unit of the fleet destroyer Bezboyaznenny, flagship specialist for missile weapons of the missile carrier ships division, senior assistant to the commander of the guard missile cruiser Varyag, and commander of the fleet destroyer Bystry.

After graduating from the Military Academy of the Russian General Staff in 2009, he was appointed commander of the Baltic naval base of the Baltic Fleet. He then served as chief of staff of the Black Sea Fleet (March 2012 through May 2016).

In the period between May 2016 and today's appointment, he was head of the military naval scientific-training center Kuznetsov Naval Academy.

Nosatov became vice-admiral in May 2014.
