Long-distance passenger transport on Russian railways jumps 3.9% in June
MOSCOW. July 1 (Interfax) - Russia's railways carried 9.6 million passengers on long-distance routes in June, up 3.9% year-on-year, the Russian Railways (RZD) press office said, quoting preliminary data.
Long-distance passenger transportation fell 3.3% year-on-year in January this year - prior to that it had not grown on monthly basis since 2012 - but just 1.6% in February, due to the extra leap year day that month, and stabilized in Match before rising again in April by 4.2%, and in May, by 2.2%.
Long-distance passenger transportation rose 1.9% year-on-year to 45.1 million in January-June 2016.
Commuter trains carried 81.6 million passengers in June, down 0.9% year-on-year, and 438.5 million in January-June, down 1.1%.
Overall, the number of rail passengers fell 0.4% to 91.2 million in June 2016 and 0.8% in January-June to 483.6 million.
Passenger turnover grew 2.8% to 12.1 billion passenger-km in June and 0.8% to 53.2 billion passenger-km in January-June.
Long-distance and commuter passenger traffic fell 5.1% and 4.2%, respectively, in 2015 and 7.2% and 0.3% in 2014. Long-distance fell 5% but commuter services grew 3% in 2013, and both grew in 2012.
