Moscow's idea of setting up intl antiterrorist coalition remains on table - Duma chairman

THESSALONIKI. July 5 (Interfax) - Russia's proposal on setting up a broad antiterrorist coalition remains on the table, State Duma Chairman Sergei Naryshkin said while visiting Greece.

"This proposal remains relevant," Naryshkin said when asked by journalists whether Russia's initiative remained valid.

In elaborating on his repeated calls for consolidating efforts in combating terrorism, Naryshkin said he meant "efforts by different branches of government, that is, the executive and legislative branches."

"From the standpoint of inter-parliamentary interaction, surely, the parliamentarians should display solidarity and declare openly and unambiguously that [terrorist manifestations are] unacceptable and that this is a huge evil that needs to be fought," he said.

"As for the executive branch, it should undertake proper actions together," Naryshkin said.

"This is actually what the Russian Federation has proposed in fighting international terrorism and terrorist organizations and groups acting in the Syrian Arab Republic and Iraq," Naryshkin said.

"This is the establishment of the broadest international coalition that should act in line with the common design and common plan and coordinate efforts of various countries making up this coalition," he said.
