Seoul sees need to step up cooperation with Russia in Far East and Siberia - S. Korean Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. July 7 (Interfax) - Russia and South Korea ought to make efforts to promote their cooperation in different industries in the Far East and Siberia, South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Hyoung-zhin said.

"The Far East region and Siberia is a point of contact between the Russian government's Far East and Siberia development policy and the Eurasian initiative, which is an important strategy of the Korean government. The heads of our two states have expressed their agreement on several occasions that it is necessary to make efforts to broaden cooperation between our countries in areas such as agriculture, fishing, healthcare, medicine, ports and logistics," he said.

"Active dialogue is underway in the fishing sector between our companies that want to invest in this industry in the Far East. If we manage to arrange for our companies to build freezing plants in the Far East region, in this case I expect that this project may become an example of mutually advantageous cooperation between our countries," the deputy minister said.
