LPR records 20 strikes by Ukrainian army in past 24 hours
LUHANSK/DONETSK. July 8 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Armed Forces have shelled the territory of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) 20 times in the past 24 hours, a LPR people's militia spokesman told reporters.
"Twenty instances of shelling by the Ukrainian army were recorded from July 7 to July 8," he said.
On July 8, the Ukrainian army opened fire on the populated localities of Kalynove, Kalynivka, Lozove, Lohvynove and Sanzharivka, using 82mm and 120mm mortars, grenade launchers, infantry fighting vehicle weapons and small arms, he said.
"There have been no casualties among the civilian population and people's militia personnel," the spokesman said.
For its part, the Donetsk news agency reported, citing a source in security agencies of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), that the Ukrainian military had fired 159 mines against the outskirts of Donetsk, Horlivka, Yasynuvata, Dokuchayevsk and the self-proclaimed republic's southern villages on Thursday evening and overnight.
"From 7:00 p.m. to midnight, the Ukrainian side was shelling the area surrounding the Volvo Center, the villages of Oleksandrivka and Trudovske west of Donetsk, the area surrounding an industrial zone near Yasynuvata, the village of Zaitseve near Horlivka, the outskirts of Dokuchayevsk, as well as the villages of Sakhanka and Kominternove in the south of the republic," the source said.
Infantry fighting vehicle weapons, grenade launchers and small arms were used during the strikes as well, he said.
