Kazakh beer magnate's accomplices planned to take up top-level posts after coup - Kazakh National Security Committee

ASTANA. July 11 (Interfax) - The accomplices of well-known businessman, Shymkentpivo LLC Director Tokhtar Tuleshov, who plotted a coup in Kazakhstan, were preparing to take up the posts of Chairman of the Kazakh Supreme Court and Kazakh Interior Minister, Kazakh National Security Committee (NSC) spokesman Ruslan Karasev said.

"[Former Constitutional Council member Ilyas] Bakhtybayev and [former head of internal affairs department for the South Kazakhstan region, Gen. Maj. Kibratkuly] Doskaliyev were aware of Tuleshov's plans of preparations to seize power by violent means and fully supported them. After the coup they intended to take up the posts of Chairman of the Kazakh Supreme Court and Kazakh Interior Minister," Karasev said at a press conference in Astana on Monday.

He said that other senior officers of military units, who provided Tuleshov with military equipment for financial rewards, are connected to the investigation as well.

"Senior military officers [Bekzat] Zhumin and [Kayrat] Pernebayev in exchange for illegal financial reward provided Tuleshov with combat aircraft, military equipment and troops with standard weapons to participate in a private paramilitary sports event, which he organized and held in the Sayram district of the South Kazakhstan region in August, 2015, [under the pretense of celebrating his father's birthday]," he said.
