Russia stops 3 men from C. Asia recruited by ISIL from traveling to Syria

VLADIKAVKAZ. July 14 (Interfax) - Officials from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) department for North Ossetia detained three citizens of former Soviet Central Asian republics attempting to travel to Syria through the Russian-Georgian border, the FSB department reported.

"During an inquiry, the young men explained that they had been recruited by representatives of the terrorist organization ISIL banned in Russian territory through online social networks," it said.

The recruiters thoroughly instructed the potential terrorists on a route they were supposed to follow to reach Syria by traveling across the Russian-Georgian border and then through Turkey, it said.

"The Sovetsky District Court in Vladikavkaz ruled to expel the offenders from Russia and bar them from entering our country's territory. Thus, another attempt to join terrorist armed units acting in Syrian territory has been prevented," it said.
