Three participants of clashes outside seized police building in Yerevan arrested for disobeying police

YEREVAN. July 25 (Interfax) - Three Yerevan residents have been arrested for resisting a law enforcement officer on duty, the Armenian Investigative Committee said.

On the evening of July 19, the police who were protecting the grounds of a police building in Yerevan, which had been seized by an armed group, had to clash with radicals after these attempted to infiltrate the protected area. According to the Armenian Investigative Committee, the clashes left 62 people in need of medical assistance, including 37 police officers.

The three Yerevan residents are being charged under Article 316 part two of the Armenian Criminal Code (resisting a law enforcement officer on duty, and deliberately forcing him to act unlawfully by using violence or threatening to use violence), the Investigative Committee said. The article imposes a penalty in the form of a fine or imprisonment for maximum one year.

"The court has granted the investigator's petition for them to be remanded in custody. As of July 25, four people have been indicted under this article," the Investigative Committee said.
