Federation Council committee discusses candidacy for post of Russian ambassador to Ukraine, presidential envoy Babich in parliament building
MOSCOW. July 29 (Interfax) - Consultations on the candidacy for the post of Russian ambassador to Ukraine have been held in the Federation Council, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax.
Mikhail Babich, presidential envoy to the Volga Federal District, is considered to be a candidate for the post of Russian ambassador to Ukraine, a source in the State Duma said earlier.
Babich is now in the Federation Council building, an Interfax correspondent reported.
Andrei Klimov, deputy head of the Federation Council's international committee, told Interfax a meeting to discuss the candidacies for the posts of ambassadors of various states was held on Friday, but did not specify the states.
"We held a meeting to discuss the candidacies for posts of ambassadors of various countries behind closed doors," Klimov said.
A source in the State Duma committee on international affairs told Interfax on Friday that Babich was nominated as a candidate for the post of Russian ambassador to Ukraine by parliamentarians on Thursday.
Earlier on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed Mikhail Zurabov from the post of Russian ambassador to Ukraine. Sergei Toropov was appointed Russian charge d'affaires in Ukraine.
