Russian, Bulgarian leaders discuss implementation of joint projects in energy

MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov took place on Friday at the initiative of Bulgaria, the Kremlin's press service said.

"Relevant topics of bilateral cooperation were discussed with a focus on the implementation of joint projects in energy. It was agreed to activate cooperation within the Russian-Bulgarian intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific and research cooperation," the statement said.

The most discussed projects in the energy sector between Russian and Bulgaria are the project to build a gas pipeline along the bottom of the Black Sea, Southern Stream, recently Transneft received a notification from Bulgaria about the fact that prospects remain for building the Burgas-Alexandroupoli oil pipeline.

A week ago, Borisov discussed the Southern Stream gas pipeline with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
