Mutko calls for sanctions against contractors who disrupt schedules of construction of facilities for 2018 FIFA World Cup
MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - The people in charge of the preparations of the transport infrastructure for the 2017 Confederations Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup should work more actively with contractors and penalize them for disrupting schedules, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said.
"Some regions are behind, I don't want to name them; it is largely a lack of coordination with the governors, lack of coordination and unclear work of contractors and a lack of proper requirements to subcontractors. It's what we see in Kaliningrad, Saransk; we can't go on like this, we can't push the deadlines forward forever, it is now necessary to use all mechanisms, including penalties, replacement of contractors," Mutko said at a meeting devoted to the preparations for the organization of the Confederations Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
As an example, he mentioned the situation with the construction of the stadium in St. Petersburg, where a contractor organization has recently been replaced, and he also believes the same should be done over the issue of renovation of the airport in Kaliningrad.
"If you see a threat in the activation of the infrastructure in Kaliningrad airport, a decision needs to be made: one shouldn't dance around this contractor," the minister said.
