Biden to meet with Baltic states' presidents in Latvia

RIGA. Aug 14 (Interfax/BNS) - United States Vice President Joe Biden will pay a visit to Latvia on August 23, President Raimonds Vejonis' chancellery said.

In Riga, Biden will meet with the presidents of the Baltic States and hold bilateral meetings with Vejonis and Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis.

The visit will take place at the invitation of the Latvian president.

Foreign policy experts and political analysts said the upcoming visit was a clear sign of U.S. political support for the Baltic countries, which is especially important after NATO's Warsaw summit.

In Riga the U.S. vice president will also make a public statement before the Baltic nations. Latvian officials have previously met with Biden on his foreign trips, including one to Lithuania in 2014.

Biden will also visit Turkey on August 22 and Sweden after August 25, the chancellery said.
