Evacuees return to flats after FSB operation in St. Petersburg house
ST. PETERSBURG. Aug 17 (Interfax) - Residents of the house in Leninsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg, where the Federal Security Service (FSB) conducted an operation earlier on Wednesday, have now been allowed to get inside the building.
The first ones allowed to get back in were residents from floors one to eight (i.e. under the flat where suspected militants had been holed up), an Interfax correspondent said. However, not everyone is in a hurry to go back home, some have remained outside to watch what's happening.
Also, a vehicle with criminal experts has emerged outside the house entrance.
It was reported that the FSB operation in St. Petersburg led to elimination of militants who were wanted by the federal authorities for their membership in illegal armed formations in North Caucasus.
There have been no casualties among civilians and law enforcement personnel, an FSB spokesperson said.
