Three militants eliminated in St. Petersburg were militant ringleaders in Kabardino-Balkaria - National Anti-Terrorism Committee
MOSCOW. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The militants killed in a Federal Security Service's (FSB) special operation in St. Petersburg were ringleaders of the terrorist underground in the Russian internal Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) information center told Interfax.
"As a result of the operative search actions conducted by the Federal Security Service bodies in the city of St. Petersburg, a group of individuals involved in the activity of the militant underground in the North Caucasus region has been detected," the NAC statement said.
As of now, three of them are tentatively identified as Zalim Shebzukhov, who is born in 1986, Astemir Sheriyev, who is born in 1991, and Vyacheslav Nyrov, who is born in 1982. The entire trio were federally wanted and ringleaders of the terrorist underground, which is acting in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria.
The militants had been involved in a number of high-profile crimes, including the attempted assassinations of employees of the law enforcement agencies and prosecution services, according to the NAC data.
"Automatic firearms, munitions and several improvised explosive devices have been discovered in the area of the special operation," the statement said.
The NAC said that no civilians had been injured during the special operation. "Necessary operative searching and investigative actions are currently underway at the incident site," the NAC statement said.
