Estonian foreign minister asks U.S. delegation to continue anti-Russian sanctions

TALLINN. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Estonian Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand has asked the United States not to loosen anti-Russian sanctions, the ministry's spokesperson said.

"The sanctions must continue until Russia starts honoring its obligations," she said at a meeting with a delegation of members of the U.S Senate and House of Representatives on Thursday.

"The U.S. is Estonia's key partner and NATO ally," Kaljurand said.

"We are grateful to the United States of America that its troops today are helping provide security in our region and Europe," the minister said.

Hopefully, the U.S. will sign its free trade agreement with the European Union under the current administration, she said.

"The signing of the agreement would substantially help liven up the Trans-Atlantic economic relations and speed up economic growth," the Estonian minister said.
