Turkmen State Sports Committee chief reprimanded for athletes' failure in Rio
ASHGABAT. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow has strongly reprimanded State Sports Committee Chairman Kakabay Seydow for the poor performance of Turkmen athletes at international competitions, the state republican newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan said.
"We are upset that [...] the athletes have failed to justify the confidence of their homeland, to do their best for raising the sporting authority of the country and for hoisting our green flag," the newspaper quoted the president as saying.
Berdimuhamedow said in a video conference that Seydow had been strongly reprimanded for inappropriate fulfillment of his duties and for shortcomings in athletes' preparations for international competitions.
The president said Seydow would be dismissed unless the shortcomings were rapidly resolved.
Nine athletes competed for Turkmenistan in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games; they did not win a single award.
