Lithuanian dairy processor cleared to export to China

VILNIUS. Aug 24 (Interfax/BNS) - Major Lithuanian dairy processor Vilkyskiu pienine and two subsidiaries, Kelmes pienine and Modest, have been cleared to export dairy products to China.

The first 20 tonnes of mozzarella will be shipped to China in the near future, Vilkyskiu pienine CEO and owner Gintaras Bertasius said.

It is the first Lithuanian dairy concern to receive permission to export to China.

"They have approved us, and beginning Monday [August 23] we can make exports. Product will be shipped by sea. To begin with we will ship one container, over 20 tonnes. This will be mozzarella. Next year it will include dry products," Bertasius said.

Lithuania received all documents from China needed for exports of agricultural products in the middle of April. The Chinese market is important for Lithuania, which has been shut out of the lucrative Russian market since that country imposed the food product embargo in August 2014. Lithuanian dairy producers had previously exported about 20%-40% of their output to Russia.
