Poroshenko tells Stoltenberg about Donbas escalation

KYIV. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg have discussed the situation in Donbas by telephone.

The head of state informed the latter of the recent escalation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the Ukrainian president's press office said. "Petro Poroshenko also urged NATO to keep the issue of Russian aggression against Ukraine on its agenda," the press office said.

For his part, Stoltenberg stressed the importance of implementing the Minsk Agreements.

In addition, the parties discussed progress in implementing NATO's aid package for Ukraine approved at the alliance's Warsaw summit. The president expressed hope the package would help Ukraine modernize its army in line with NATO standards.

Stoltenberg congratulated Poroshenko on Ukraine's Independence Day.
