Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier's serviceability restored before long-distance voyage - USC

MOSCOW. Sept 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Serviceability of the Admiral Kuznetsov heavy aircraft carrier has been restored at the 35th ship repairing plant, United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Vice-President for Military Shipbuilding Igor Ponomaryov told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"Speaking of ship modernization, USC enterprises possesses every competence for accomplishing such missions," Ponomaryov said, answering a question about the aircraft carrier's technical preparedness for a long-distance voyage due to the works done at the 35th ship repairing plant.

"The Vikramaditya aircraft carrier was delivered to India [in 2013] after profound modernization performed by Sevmash," he said.

It was reported earlier that the Admiral Kuznetsov might go on a long-distance voyage in the middle of October. It visited the Eastern Mediterranean in previous years.

A Northern Fleet task force led by the Admiral Kuznetsov is scheduled to go on a long-distance voyage after October 20. The carrier's aircraft wing will comprise new Mikoyan MiG-29KRs and MiG-29KUBRs designed and built by MiG Aircraft Corporation and Sukhoi Su-33 and Su-25UTG aircraft.

The Severomorsk destroyer, the Sergei Osipov sea tanker and a tugboat will be accompanying the aircraft carrier during the voyage, which will last for four or five months.

The 35th ship repairing plant is part of United Shipbuilding Corporation.
