Matviyenko, Naryshkin invited to Strasbourg in Sept, but State Duma speaker will not be able to arrive - PACE chief

MOSCOW. Sept 7 (Interfax) - State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin and Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko are invited to Strasbourg in mid-September this year, but Naryshkin will not be able to arrive due to the forthcoming parliamentary elections, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) President Pedro Agramunt told a briefing following the meeting with Naryshkin on Wednesday.

This will be a great honor for him to receive Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko in Strasbourg next week, he said.

Matviyenko will attend the European Conference of Parliament Speakers, which will be held in Strasbourg next week.

Such important issues, as a crisis related to refugees, migrants, the threats to democracy, rule of law, human rights observation, growth of enmity sentiments, intolerance will be discussed in Strasbourg, and, in this regard, the voice of Russian parliamentarians will be very important, Agramunt said.
