OIC secretary general to arrive in Uzbekistan for visit

TASHKENT. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Iyad bin Amin Madani will come to Tashkent on September 8 for a visit, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a report published on its website on Thursday.

"The upcoming meetings and negotiations will highlight preparations for the 43rd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers which will be chaired by Uzbekistan and will take place in Tashkent in October of this year," the report said.

Uzbekistan, which joined the OIC in 1996, is presiding over the organization in 2016.

The OIC was founded in September 1969 to promote Islamic solidarity in the social, economic and political fields. The organization has 57 member countries.
