Only Syrian army observes ceasefire in Syria - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Only the government army is observing the ceasefire regime in Syria, Russian Defense Ministry representative Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said on Friday.

"Despite the fact that the ceasefire regime in Syria envisaged by the Russian-U.S. agreement has lasted for four days now, the issue of the general ability of the 'moderate opposition' to observe it remains open," the general said.

"All attempts by our American partners to demonstrate to the world at least some manageability of their opposition activists in Syria have now failed," the general said.

"Although the ceasefire agreement is bilateral, only one party is actually implementing it," the spokesman said.

"De-facto, today in Aleppo there is only one party that is prepared to hold talks, observe the ceasefire and remove troops to let UN humanitarian convoys inside. It is the Syrian governmental army," the general said.

"The second party - the moderate opposition forces whose being organized and controlled, apparently, by our U.S. partners, was so much talked about - has not been found in Aleppo yet," the general said.
