Russian citizen who received training in ISIL jihadist camps detained in Tatarstan

KAZAN. Sept 21 (Interfax-AVN) - An operation to detain Russian citizen Sharifbek Shoyev, who was wanted on suspicion of fighting in Syria, has been conducted in the Almetyevsk district of Tatarstan, the Russian Federal Security Service's Department for Tatarstan said.

"It has been tentatively determined that Sharifbek Shoyev was trained in the camps of the militants of the international terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIL, banned in Russia) and participated in military action when he was in Syria in 2013. He returned to Russia in 2016," the report said.

The detainee has now been escorted to his previous place of residence, Yekaterinburg.
