Lavrov thanks Ban Ki-moon for efforts in upgrading UN, expects contribution of new secretary general

UN, New York. Sept 23 (Interfax) - Russia expects that the new UN secretary general will make many efforts to solve the global issues in accordance with the demands of the time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"I would like to express gratitude to His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, who while serving at the post of the UN secretary general made many efforts to upgrade the global organization in accordance with the demands of the time," he said during the general debates at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

"We expect that the new UN secretary general will also make a contribution to solving these issues," he said.
