New prosecutor general appointed in Abkhazia
SUKHUM. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Nuri Taniya has been appointed new prosecutor general of Abkhazia.
The deputies of the Abkhaz parliament on Wednesday unanimously voted for his appointment to the post.
On July 27, the Abkhaz parliament relieved Alexey Lomiya of his duties as prosecutor general. Parliament Speaker Valery Bganba then told reporters Lomiya had filed his resignation.
In accordance with the Constitution and Article 12 of the law On Prosecutors, the prosecutor general is appointed and dismissed by the parliament at the recommendation of the president of Abkhazia.
Taniya has a degree from Abkhaz State University. He previously worked in the judicial bodies and in the republic's interior affairs bodies. He was prosecutor of the Gudauta district and head of the republic's Interior Ministry's investigative department. In 2014, he was again appointed prosecutor of the Gudauta district.
