Police officer detained in Moscow in case of Rochdelskaya Street shootout being checked for links to fraudulent realtors - source

MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - Detained former chief of the criminal investigation department of Moscow's Presnensky district police station, Denis Romashkin, is accused of links to fraudulent realtors specializing in depriving the citizens of their real estate properties, a source in law enforcement agencies told Interfax.

"The information on Romashkin's links during his term of service as a police officer to organized crime groups, including fraudulent realtors, is being currently verified" the source said.

In particular, according to operative information, Romashkin may be involved in a series of crimes against the apartment owners, including those related to their disappearances and possible murders, the source said.

Romashkin recently changed three police precincts, he worked in the Arbat district police station, the Presnensky district police station and the Khamovniki district police station, where he was fired on disreputable grounds from, the source said.

The source said that Romashkin served as an acting chief of the Presnensky District police station's criminal investigation department in December 2015, when two people were killed in a shootout that took place near the Elements restaurant on Rochdelskaya Street.

Moscow's Presnensky District Court spokesperson Anastasia Pylina told Interfax on September 29 that the court will consider the investigation's motion for the arrest of Romashkin, who is being charged with abuse of office due to the Rochdelskaya Street incident, on Friday.

She added that he was detained on September 27, and the term of his detention was extended for 72 hours, until September 30, on the court's decision.
